LES VILLES ET LES VISITES Aix en Provence :
Arles : Arles is a former roman capital and had been a religious pole in the Middle-Ages. In the city lay two of the most beautiful Gallo-Roman antiques : the Arena and the Theatre. The "Portail de Sainte Trophine" and the"Cloître de Sainte Trophine" are also among the best relics of the Romanesque art. These architectural and cultural jewels have also been inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Avignon : City of culture and arts, Avignon is surrounded by ramparts. The Romanesque Cathedral of "Notre-Dame des Doms" and the "Palais des Papes" had been erected on the "Rocher des Doms". The cultural infrastructure of the city is pretty well developed and particularly efficient. Marseille :
LES PAYSAGES he plains of Provence: The plain of "La grande craux" is separated from the Camargue by the Rhône. It is a wide desert of pebbles and stones in which hardly no vegetation grows. The Camargue : the Camargue is a delta of alluvia deposits recently formed by the Rhône. The vast and flat salty area give it an aspect of wild hugeness. The relief of Provence: Mount Ventoux is an impressive calcareous massif that dominates the plain of Comtadine and reaches its highest point at 1909m. The Luberon range is over 60km wide. "Le Grand Luberon", the highest point, reaches 1125m. The Alpilles range is characterized by calcareous steep and bare slopes and jagged crest.
The calanques are world-wide famous for hiking, rock-climbing and underwater diving or fishing. MORGIOU : CASSIS :
The Mediteranean The deep-blue color of the sea is due to its extreme clearness. The waters of the Mediterranean are more salty than those of the ocean. Tide is neap, and only few powerless but lively little waves disturb the flat sea.
